HR Conclave 2011
organised on 9 April, 2011 by the students of Master of Finance Control(MFC,) offered by the Department of Financial Studies(DFS), University of Delhi

The HR Conclave organized by the Department of Financial Studies (DFS), University of Delhi as a part of its annual roster of events aims to promote holistic learning at specialist, managerial and executive levels to expose the students to new concepts in emerging issues in areas other than Finance that are as critical to an organization. The theme for this year’s conclave titled ”The Role Of HR in Mergers & Acquisitions: Opportunities, Strategies and Pitfalls” proved to be a catalyst for an engrossing session that re-enforced our belief that the best way to stimulate the young and innovative minds of the students and benefit from them is through the experiences and practical knowledge of the practitioners in the industry.

The panelists at the Conclave addressed the various aspects that are critical to a successful M&A, often drawing from their rich professional experience to elucidate their opinions.

Mr Anil Kumar Chaudhry (VP, HR at NDPL) touched base upon the effects of M&A on a unionized work-force. Mr. Prashant Verma (Deputy GM, HR at ICICI bank) enlightened us on the pitfalls and strategies pertaining to change management through his experience with the Bank of Rajasthan and ICICI merger. Mr. Vinod Behari (Executive Director,HR at REC) and Ms Veena Padmanabhan (GM, HR at WIPRO) helped compare the role of HR in a PSU and a Private Firm. The Conclave was moderated by Dr Debi Saini (Professor,HR at MDI,Gurgaon). Dr Debi Saini helped bridge the gap between the academic perspective and the prevalent practices in the world of M & A’s by comparing the opinions of the panelists with historical data and theory.

The HR Conclave has undoubtedly been a highlight of this academic session and a cornerstone of the Department of Financial Studies’ philosophy of holistic learning.
